Sydney specialty bakery, Shepherd's Artisan Bakehouse, have created a deluxe Salted Caramel Hot Cross Bun to mark the 2016 Easter holiday.
Traditional spiced hot cross bun dough is liberally studded with hand-salted chunks of fudge and jumbo raisins before being shaped into generous buns, piped with a caramel cross and lacquered with syrup. They're then baked to golden, fluffy perfection.
When served hot, the fudgy chunks melt and ooze from the buns. Sliced and buttered, the butter melts into the caramel creating a sticky, delicious treat (and sticky, delicious fingers!)
The crispy caramel cross on top provides the perfect textural counterpoint to all that fluffiness, and they can be served with a slather of Nutella or a dollop of mascarpone for extra yum factor.
Available from now till just after Easter in all Shepherds locations.
