Uuni Stack | What Have You Got to Prove?

Uuni

Uuni (www.uuni.net) are always innovating and alongside their multi-award winning Uuni 2 wood-fired oven (£189) are a range of great products. Their newest invention, the Uuni Stack, provides a simple and easy way to prove dough. It is also great for cooking prep, chopping and stylish storage.

Great dough is the bedrock of a great pizza and proving (or proofing, if you prefer) plays an important part in getting it right. The Uuni Team used to cover plates with cling film or find random containers to fill with dough balls but always found this to be… not such a great process.

And so, Uuni Stack was born. A simple tool created for the important task of proving dough. Each dough ball gets its own container; simply place the Stack on your worktop or in your fridge, and let the dough do its stuff. Uuni Stack looks good and doubles as storage for dry ingredients, in addition the lid can function as a handy chopping board, so this really is a multi-purpose product.

Stack facts

• There are 3 bowls per Stack and each bowl has a volume of roughly one litre.
• Each glass bowl is 16cm in diameter and total Stack height is 21cm, weight is 1.8kg
• The bowls are dishwasher and microwave safe
• The lid is made of bamboo and it's 1.6 cm (0.6") thick

Uuni have also created a helpful step-by-step guide at www.pizzadough101.com to help you perfect your dough.

Editor's Notes

Uuni was founded in 2011 by Kristian Tapaninaho in his London back garden, with the first Uuni wood-fired pizza oven shipping in the summer of 2013. Uuni has to date been sold to almost 50 countries, quickly selling out whenever a new shipment arrives.

Kristian's professional background had always been in education and creative arts with his company Suklaa, but in 2012 he made it his mission to find a way of achieving wood-fired perfection in a compact oven design. After almost a year of prototyping and design work, Uuni was born.

Kristian grew up in Pyhäsalmi in Finland. His family owned a small supermarket, with an on-site bakery which he helped in, run by Kaisa, Kristian's mum. Dedication and 4am starts meant Kristian learnt everything there is to know about baking. Uuni doesn't just have its eye on product design and development but on the end product and the foods and flavours too.

Kristian lives with his wife and fellow Uuni Director, Darina, and their two boys Oskari, 4, and Otto, 2.

Uuni Oven was launched on Kickstarter and the response was huge; it reached its funding goal within two weeks finishing at more than 220%, whilst capturing the imagination of the global pizza community.
