London's only Basque-inspired streetfood trader Donostia Social Club has opened their first permanent pintxos bar in Brixton.
An impressive converted shipping container that forms the archway entrance to Pop Brixton's pioneering community space, Donostia Social Club's unique new tapas bar showcases many of the signature small plates made famous at their iconic blue streetfood van plus an array of enticing new dishes, all inspired by the Basque Country in Northern Spain. Guests can enjoy the fully immersive social club experience at the intimate “chef's table” style indoor bar with its perfect view of the buzzing kitchen, or relax with al fresco drinks and sharing snacks at the outdoor terrace.
Open seven days per week, the new fixed bar space offers diners the opportunity to sample a regular taste of Donostia Social Club's popular small plates such as Lamb Rump with Fennel & Salsa Verde; Braised Iberico Pork Cheek with Butter Bean Purée & Herb Oil, and the stunning Seared Scallop with Pisto, Green Chilli Sauce & Almonds. Exciting additions to the renowned streetfood trader's new pintxos bar menu include Smoked Wild Pigeon Breast Salad with Pickled Green Figs & Artichokes; Pan-fried Hake and Brined Cockles with Samphire & Lemon Aioli; as well as their own brined and marinated seafood (an exclusive twist on traditional Conservas) and classic Spanish desserts like Leche Frita with Forest Honey.
With over twenty years catering experience including many years spent cooking in Spain, Donostia Social Club's founder Paul Belcher is committed to sourcing the best authentic ingredients and supporting fellow independent food producers. Cured meats and artisanal products are delivered directly from Northern Spain and a daily-changing selection of artisan cheeses are supplied by Flavours of Spain, with other fresh produce purchased from nearby Jones the Butcher, Harry Otto & Sons fishmongers and local traders at Brixton market. The drinks menu has been equally carefully curated, featuring a wide range of fine Spanish wines, sherries, beers and ciders.
Donostia Social Club began trading as London's only mobile pintxos bar in 2012, and their reputation for serving exceptional Basque-inspired tapas has grown ever since. The decision to open a permanent dining space is a natural progression for the dedicated team, who have been a prominent feature on London's streetfood scene and won widespread acclaim for their successful three month kitchen residency at The King & Co pub in Clapham.
