The BBC Good Food Show Scotland returns to the SECC in Glasgow from 31 October to 2 November with a sumptuous line up of entertainment and inspiration combined with an abundance of tasting and shopping opportunities. Here are 10 not-to-be-missed great things to do:

1. Catch up with Gordon Ramsay live on stage in the Winter Kitchen sponsored by Sainsbury�s cooking an exciting Tuna dish followed by baked plums with amaretti! A whole host of inspiring dishes will be created live on stage throughout the show by Gordon and other leading chefs including James Martin, Nick Nairn, Tom Kitchin, Brian Maule, Andrew Fairlie and Stuart Muir.

2. Stop by at the Really Garlicky Company stand to set yourself up to survive the evils of the season! Whether it is a boost for the immune system or to ward off ghoulish vampires at Halloween, a shot of this powerful Scottish-grown porcelain garlic will do the trick!

3. Book a seat at a Sugar and Spice Tasting Session and discover how sweet can be savoury and savoury can be sweet. Run by Jacqueline O�Donnell from Sisters Restaurant and John Quigley from Red Onion, this session promises to be a true taste experience! Other tasting sessions will include wonderful oils and vinegars from Demijohn and the superbly tasty produce of our Slow Food exhibitors ranging from breads and cheese to venison, fish, chicken and beef.

4. Try a sip of the one of the oldest style of ales still brewed in the world! �Fraoch� Heather Ale is brewed in Scotland from an ancient Gaelic recipe and lines up alongside Rhubarb, Toffee and Lime Vodkas and a great collection of more traditional drinks cabinet favourites in Drinks, The Fine Wine, Beer and Spirits Show.

5. Forget the beef burgers! Why not try a buffalo burger from the Puddledub Buffalo stand in the Slow Food Pavilion? Or if haggis is your thing, Fletchers of Auchtermuchty have some fabulous venison haggis to ring the changes. All stands in the Slow Food Pavilion have been awarded free or subsidised to the best tasting produce from small Scottish producers meeting Slow Food UK�s strict good, clean and fair criteria.

6. Go retro at the Robert Wiseman Dairies� 50�s style milk bar which will be serving delicious freshly-made smoothies throughout the show. Wiseman�s are just one of a selection of great dairy exhibitors which also include Grahams - The Family Dairy, Rachel�s Organic Dairy, Connage Highland Dairy, Lactalis McLelland and Mackies with their award winning ice cream.

7. Be entertained by dancers and musicians in the Asian Dining Experience. Try a Thali Taster Tray or something from the Pakora Bar to add some extra spice to your day and wash it down with some exquisite Indian teas or an Indian beer!

8. The knives will be out on the Kin Knives stand � but in the best possible way with the launch of a new limited edition Gordon Ramsay kitchen knife. Only 1000 of these knives have been specially made in Japan, and they will go on sale for the first time at the show. Where better to make a start on the Christmas shopping?

9. Seek some pure indulgence in the East Lothian Pavilion where local company The Chocolate Tree will be offering their wickedly tempting range of organic sweet treats including a fantastic chilli chocolate, white pistachio chocolate and hand-crafted truffles.

10. Boost your recipe collection with a visit to the BBC Good Food Show book shop. With special book signings happening throughout the show, a signed recipe book would also make a great Christmas present!

SPICED BUTTERNUT SQUASH SOUP

Serves 8

1 tablespoon olive oil 25 g butter 1 onion, peeled and chopped 1 leek, trimmed, washed and chopped 2 cloves garlic, crushed 1 large mild red chilli, deseeded and finely chopped 3 cm piece fresh ginger, peeled and finely grated 1 large butternut squash 2 large potatoes, peeled and cut into large chunks 1 litre vegetable or chicken stock salt and freshly ground black pepper

To serve: cr�me fraiche snipped chives or thyme leaves croutons

Heat the olive oil and butter in a large pan over a low heat. Add the chopped onion, leek, garlic, chilli and ginger and cook gently until softened but not coloured. Meanwhile peel and deseed the butternut squash and cut into chunks the same size as the potatoes. Add the squash and potatoes to the pan, pour over the stock and bring to the boil. Reduce the heat to a gentle simmer, cover with a lid and cook for about 25 minutes until the vegetables are tender. Blend the soup in a food processor until smooth, season and serve with a dollop of cr�me fraiche, snipped chives or thyme leaves and a handful of croutons.
